LIVE - Life is Valuable Education! 

The LIVE Unschool is a place where community members of all ages come together to learn skills and hobbies that are purposeful to them. Our mission is to fill the gap in education where autonomy is often taken for granted. We believe in individual educational pursuits that are as unique as the students who are pursuing them. 

At LU, no two paths look the same. As each student learns, their own interests guide them. We know that for authentic, impactful learning to take place, humans need to be interested and invested. We provide a welcoming, unrestricting environment that is conducive to those large varieties of differing needs. In addition to those positive conditions, all staff and volunteers join with an awareness of what skills, hobbies, and talents they can bring to share with our students.   

Families that join LFU do so to escape our society’s need to control “learning outcomes”. While compulsory schools focus on test scores, grades, and conformity, LFU focuses on individuality, emotional growth, life skills, and existing democratically with others. We know academics have their place and we know that life is about more than academics. We bring together people of all ages, from infancy to adulthood, to share in the learning experience. All ages and all positions have equal voices, and all are involved in decision making. Every member of LFU serves as both teacher and student, sharing their passions and talents mutually among the community. In addition, each member also serves their school in some way. With these responsibilities and freedoms, a child can not only survive but THRIVE with confidence, independence, self-awareness, and a strong sense of who they are.
